Longwood University, located in the heart of Virginia, is a coeducational, comprehensive public institution offering more than 100 majors, minors, and concentrations to more than 4,850 students. Founded in 1839, Longwood offers undergraduate programs in business administration, education and human services, the arts and sciences, plus graduate programs in education, English, sociology, and a new M.B.A in retail management.
The school offers students the benefits of a small college where professors and students are able to develop close, personal relationships. Longwood’s Academic and Career Advising Center helps students explore majors and career options; links students with internships, job opportunities, and graduate school programs; and offers campus recruiting programs and job/internship fairs. |
- For the fourteenth straight year, Longwood University is ranked among the best in the 2012 U.S. News & World Report “America’s Best Colleges” rankings. Longwood ranks #10 in the category “Top Public Universities—Master’s” in the South.
|
- Recognized as one of the “Best Southeastern Colleges” by Princeton Review for 2012.
- For the second time, Longwood is included in Forbes’ America’s Best Colleges 2011, a list of more than 600 undergraduate institutions, compiled with research from the Center for College Affordability and Productivity and based on 11 factors measuring the quality of the education each school provides, the experiences of its students, and the achievements of its graduates.
- In August 2011, Longwood University welcomed the largest freshman class in its history. The freshman class numbers 1,090, an 8 percent increase over last year’s freshman class and a 4 percent increase over the largest previous class, in 2008, which totaled 1,053. The size of the freshman class is even more impressive considering that the number of freshmen who were accepted was down 5 percent compared to last year. Also noteworthy is the 12 percent increase in males in this year’s freshman class.
