COLLEGE DESCRIPTION:
Tidewater Community College (TCC) is located in Virginia’s South Hampton Roads Region, serving the residents of the cities of Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, and Suffolk.

SUPERLATIVES/RECENT ACCOLADES:
  • TCC is the second largest of the 23 community colleges in the Commonwealth of Virginia and among the 50 fastest growing large community colleges in the nation.
  • Forty-six percent of the region's residents who attended a college or university in Virginia last fall were enrolled at TCC.
  • TCC is the 16th largest associate degree producer in the U.S. among two-year institutions and the 7th largest associate degree producer in the U.S. for African American students.
  • TCC ranks 4th in the nation for two-year associate degree producers in Business Technologies and 6th for Human Sciences.
  • The college is also in the top 20 associate degree producers for Engineering Technologies and Interdisciplinary Studies.
  • TCC received the inaugural award of the Virginia Community College System in 1991 for its work as a pacesetter in responding proactively to the needs of business and industry in workforce development.

CAMPUS LOCATIONS:
Chesapeake Campus, Norfolk Campus, Portsmouth Campus, Virginia Beach Campus; TCC also features an Advanced Technology Center, a Regional Automotive Technology Center, the Visual Arts Center, and the TCC Roper Performing Arts Center.

CURRENT INDUSTRY TRAINING PROGRAMS:
TCC’s Division of Workforce Development provides training to industry partners in several formats, including series of continuing education courses, custom courses, and academic credit courses. Some of these are formally structured apprenticeships while others are customized training programs, for which certificates are provided for a particular company or agency. TCC provides such services to hundreds of employees and the companies they represent.

Apprenticeship examples include BAE Systems, Earl Industries, Colonial Webb, and Stihl. Customized Training examples include VolvoPenta, Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, and ABNB Federal Credit Union

CURRENT INDUSTRIES SERVED:
TCC serves all major industries i.e. manufacturing, retail sales, community services, financial services, medical services, transportation, and more.

Specialized curricula in credit and non-credit have been offered to numerous companies such as ABNB Federal Credit Union, Bauer Compressors, Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, Chesapeake Redevelopment and Housing Authority, LifeNet, Portfolio Recovery, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia, Virginia International Terminals, and The Virginian-Pilot Media Companies, LLC as a few examples. During 2008-2009, TCC has served over 1,300 companies the region.

RESOURCES FOR TRAINING PURPOSES:
All four campuses use specialized laboratory equipment to support a variety of curricula, both credit and non-credit.
