COLLEGE DESCRIPTION:
Eastern Shore Community College, located in Melfa, Virginia, serves the residents of Accomack County and Northampton County.

Additional credit courses offered at Wallops Island (NASA/Navy) and non-credit, adult education and GED courses offered in several locations throughout the Eastern Shore.

CURRENT INDUSTRY TRAINING PROGRAMS:
The Workforce Development Center at Eastern Shore Community College is a developing platform for delivery of an array of education, employment, and training services to citizens and businesses of the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

The Center will work cooperatively with the Virginia Employment Commission, the Workforce Investment Board, local agencies and organizations to provide comprehensive services in a coordinated, cost effective manner. The Center’s currently available programs and services are offered in addition to the college's regular curriculum programs and services.

ESCC’s Business Development and Workforce Training Center is a new facility, opened in February 2009, which will enhance the division’s efforts to establish links between the College and the business community.

CURRENT INDUSTRIES SERVED:
Poultry Processing, Agriculture – Food Processing and Distribution, Health Care, Aerospace and Aeronautics, Transportation (CBBT), Specialty Foods Retail and Distribution, Hospitality and Tourism (including Eco-Tourism), Banking, Manufacturing

Partnerships with:

  • Small Business Programs through local Chambers of Commerce
  • Internships and Clinicals at Shore Memorial Hospital, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, and regional health care providers
  • Spanish Language and GED partnerships with Tyson and Perdue
  • Forklift Training for Purdue and Small Businesses

RESOURCES FOR TRAINING PURPOSES:
Welding lab, CADD lab, Electronics lab, three desktop computer labs – 55 seats, Thirty-station laptop cart with wireless access portable to any classroom, Fifteen seat V-DEN classroom.  New Workforce Development Building contains allied health lab, two 24-seat state-of-the-art computer labs, business oriented classroom space and an Industrial Technology Lab.  Additional formal conference, event and meeting space is available for short-term rental including a 1974 square foot “Great Hall.”
